“who is it that stays here;
the most perfect block in all of New York?”
You pull up and announce yourself just
as suddenly as Fall poked its head out
from September-Summer.
Tires tread cobblestone,
you come to a stop—
Tell us of the horses that used to come through this way…
and how remaining on this street
requires an unending degree.
Declare me a forever student
so I can stay
and live beyond the stable doors
for just a little while more.
